Workshop - Bone disorders in intensive aquaculture of salmon and cod

Bone disorders are a major cost affecting problem in intensive aquaculture with negative implications for fish welfare. The present workshop will summarise the current knowledge on bone deformities in cod and salmon and propose a strategy for further research within this field. NIFES, Bergen, 10th - 11th May 2005

Topics
The topics of the present workshop will cover basic fish bone biology and physiology, historical development of bone disorders, the present situation in Atlantic salmon and cod aquaculture, results of ongoing research activity, as well as discussion of methods, strategies, ethical aspects, and need for future research.

Target groups are researchers, participants from farming, feed and pharmaceutical industry, and representatives from feed and food administration.

Location
The National Institute of Nutrition and Seafood Research (NIFES),
Nordnesboder 4, Conference room “Sildetønnen” at 3rd floor.
The workshop will commence at 10:00 May 10th and end at 16:00 May 11th.

Abstracts and registration
We welcome contributions from the participants in form of oral presentations incl. abstracts. The abstract should be attached to the registration form and submitted to robin.ornsrud@nifes.no. Oral contributions should be no longer than 15 minutes. Abstracts will be printed in the program.

Deadline for registration and payment is April 20.
Due to practical limitations we may reduce the number of participants per institution.

It is our hope that we during this workshop increase our knowledge, form strategic alliances among the participants and make progress in our common efforts towards reducing bone disorders in salmon and cod aquaculture.
